Family Business
Puerto Rico Distillery is led by father-daughter team Angel Rivera and Crystal Rivera. Originally from Comerío, Puerto Rico, the Rivera family settled in Columbia, Maryland after Angel completed a career in the U.S. Navy.
They launched Puerto Rico Distillery in Frederick in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began. What started in a small leased production space has grown into the next chapter of the family business: a permanent home in Brunswick, Maryland.
After years of planning, renovation, and preparation, Puerto Rico Distillery is now completing the final approvals needed to open its new distillery and tasting room in Brunswick later this year.
Rooted in Culture & Tradition
Angel and Crystal are also members of Cultura Plenera, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to building community through the practice, teaching, and sharing of Puerto Rican cultural traditions in Maryland.
That connection to culture, family, and community is deeply woven into the story of Puerto Rico Distillery and the Clandestino brand.
